Paul McGinn admits he would have been surprised if Stuart Kettlewell hadn't been appointed the new permanent manager of Motherwell Football Club. The former Ross County boss was competing with former Blackpool boss Ian Holloway and ex-Peterborough gaffer Grant McCann for the job, but his impressive spell in caretaker charge of the club last week ensured he was handed the reins on a permanent basis.A 2-1 win against St Mirren and a 2-0 win over Hearts, both at home, convinced chairman Jim McMahon that Kettlewell was the man to replace Steven Hammell at the helm, following the club legend's sacking in the aftermath of a 3-1 Scottish Cup defeat at Raith Rovers. And McGinn feels Kettlewell was the only man for the job.The defender said: "I'm really pleased."I'd have been surprised if it was anyone else after those two performances and results."I think we are just glad to have a settled manager in now."He speaks clearly, he gets to the point.

There is no messing about and it is nice to have that."There's just a sort of calmness and a clear plan on how we were going to attack games."There's a bit of luck as well, but that's just football sometimes.

It's mad."If you watch us at Raith opposed to last week, it was quite a turnaround."Following that shock cup exit to the Championship side, the former Hibs and St Mirren players admits the dressing room that day was one of the worst he's experienced in his career. He added: "I've played a lot of games now and been at a lot of clubs."I've had some good and some bad [dressing rooms] and that is probably up there with the bad ones."It just seems weird that a week-and-a-half down the line, we are in a totally different frame of mind."It's never a nice time [seeing a manager sacked].
