Motherwell sign Hibernian defender just days after new deal was agreed

Motherwell have made their second signing of the summer after the capture of defender Paul McGinn from Premiership rivals Hibernian.The 31-year-old joins Graham Alexander's side on a one-year-deal ahead of the club's return for pre-season training at Dalziel Park on Friday.It comes after he had agreed a contract extension with the Hibees at the start of the month.

He had triggered an extension due to his appearances last season, but has been deemed surplass to requirements ay Easter Road.He made 34 outings for Hibs last season, during which he earned his first cap for his country in a win against Austria in September and played alongside his brother and Aston Villa midfielder John.Alexander told the club website: “We’re very happy that Paul has agreed to join us and add to our defensive options.“He has proven quality in the Premiership and his playing record is excellent since coming back to Scotland.“I feel we’ve brought in a talented and motivated player, whose character and experience will be very important to us.”McGinn follows ex-Ross County midfielder Blair Spittal to become the Steelmen's second signing of the close season and Alexander is keen to bolster his ranks further ahead of a pre-season trip to Austria next month and the upcoming Europa Conference League qualifier with either Bala Town or Sligo Rovers.Follow Lanarkshire Live Sport onTwitter via@LanLiveSport, like us onFacebookor find us onInstagramfor the latest sports news, pictures and video.
