Callum Slattery’s first season at Motherwell saw him secure European football and now the midfielder is itching for the journey to continue next season. The 23-year-old signed a three-year deal at Fir Park last summer after leaving Southampton and played 33 times in claret and amber, netting twice. His goal against Livingston helped secure the 2-2 draw that sealed the Steelmen’s top six place in the Premiership, but he believes even after a fifth place finish secured Europa Conference League football, Motherwell can up their game next season. He said: “We need to improve, rest up and come back stronger for next season.

I think we are all looking forward to European football.“It’s been great to get there so we need to enjoy the experience when it comes and try and go as far as we can.

We had that secured before the final day which was good to know.“I have spent time with my family and have got rested up ready to go again in pre-season."I have enjoyed my time here massively.

I have enjoyed the season as a whole and to play quite a few games and help the club to top six was important.”The campaign ended with a painful 6-0 thrashing away to champions Celtic and Slattery added: “It was a sore one to finish the season on but Celtic are a great side.“Overall we need to look at the full season and we got the top six, which is a positive.“We now look to next season.
