Military drafted in to help Scots health boards battle surge in Omicron cases

Military personnel are being drafted in to help Scottish health boards treat Omicron patients. The Scottish Government confirmed the 90 individuals will assist NHS Ayrshire and Arran, NHS Grampian and NHS Lanarkshire.

They will begin inductions on January 7, joining 221 members of the armed forces who have been supporting the vaccine programme across Scotland.The latest Military Assistance for Civilian Authorities (MACA) support will go ahead after being approved by the Scottish Government.A further 96 armed forces workers are already driving ambulances in support of the Scottish Ambulance service.Scottish Health Secretary Humza Yousaf said: "The emergence of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 is adding to the winter pressures usually faced
