Michael Keaton has become the first actor to scoop a whopping five major TV awards for the same role after winning his first ever Emmy Award.

The actor, 71, was awarded Leading Actor in a Miniseries or TV Movie for his role as Dr. Samuel Finnix in Disney Plus series Dopesick during the awards ceremony.

That means that he has won a Golden Globe, a Screen Actors Guild Award, a Critics Choice Award, and a Television Critics Association Award as well as an Emmy Award for his performance in the series.

Taking to the stage on Monday night to accept his prize, Michael paid tribute to his parents. The Batman and Beetlejuice star took the role, his first in television after his own nephew died from a drug overdose. ‘I watched all the cowboy shows and all the comedies, the gangster shows,’ he said, ‘and I would go, and I would reenact these scenes or create my own scenes and my parents and my brothers and sisters would watch me out the window and to this day, they were never demeaning, they were never dismissive, they never looked down at me, they never made fun of me and in fact they’d ask me to reenact scenes for them. ’He admitted that his parents ‘were not exactly patrons of the arts’, but never made him feel ‘foolish’.
