Michael J. Fox Has Broken Several Bones, Almost Lost His Finger While Living with Parkinson's Disease

Michael J. Fox is opening up about his battle with Parkinson’s Disease. The 61-year-old actor was first diagnosed with the neurological disorder in 1991 when he was 29-years-old.

While promoting his new Apple TV+ documentary STILL, Michael revealed that he has suffered multiple injuries as a result of Parkinson’s. Keep reading to find out more… “I broke this shoulder — had it replaced.

I broke this elbow. I broke this hand. I had an infection that almost cost me this finger. I broke my face. I broke this humerus,” Michael shared with Variety. “And that sucked.” Since the disease makes him more susceptible to injuries, Michael said he has “aides around me quite a bit of the time in case I fall, adding that the “lack of privacy is hard to deal with.” Also in his interview, Michael shared how his life has changed since he publicly revealed his diagnosis in 1998. “I’ve won more awards and had more nominations since I announced my diagnosis,” Michael shared. “It may be that people feel bad for me, but I prefer to look at it as an acknowledgment for continuing to have a legitimate career.” After he started struggling with his lines, Michael retired from acting in 2020. “I sometimes have a fleeting moment of disappointment when a really great joke comes out and lands flat because people can’t understand what I’m saying,” Michael explained, referring to how Parkinson’s has impacted his speech. “It’s not like you can just repeat it.

But you find ways to navigate it.” Despite recently saying that he doesn’t believe he’s going to make it to 80-years-old, Michael said that he remains positive and wants to spend as much time with his family as possible. “I’m still happy to join the day and be a part of things.
