Meghan Markle has tried to keep a ‘lowered profile’ at the late Queen Elizabeth II ’s funeral, says body language expert Judi James.
Speaking exclusively to OK! Judi says that the Duchess of Sussex appeared to be standing back during her arrival at the ceremony and keeping a low profile, likely out of respect for her late grandmother-in-law.
As Meghan arrived she stood behind her sister-in-law Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales. Speaking about this, Judi says: “Meghan stands behind Kate and her children here, with her hands clasped in front of her torso in a pose suggesting a desire to stand gently back and keep a lowered profile.” The Princess of Wales can be seen showing her support for her children in this difficult time, says Judi, adding: “Kate’s tender hand on Charlotte’s shoulders shows she’s there if she’s needed.” And the young Prince George and Princess Charlotte could also be seen supporting one another as they attended the funeral service for their late great-grandmother.
Talking about the young royals, Judi says: “George looks across at his sister in the kind of ritual of checking and nudging that we saw at the jubilee celebrations, where it was Charlotte taking the lead and nudging her brother to place his arms at his sides for the anthem.” Arriving for the service at Westminster Abbey, the Duchess of Sussex wore a black dress complete with cape sleeves, which she paired with tights and black high heels. The mum-of-two wore her hair up in a low bun with a wide brimmed black hat and small pearl earrings. The choice of pearl earrings was a sweet tribute to the late monarch, who was rarely seen without her beloved pearls.
