Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, turned 41 on August 4, with well wishes coming from senior members of the royal family, including Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Long before she became one of the most recognised faces in the world after embarking on a relationship with Prince Harry, Meghan wrote herself a candid letter in 2014 as she marked her 33rd birthday.
In the letter, which she posted to her now-defunct lifestyle blog, The Tig, Meghan described her 20s as "brutal" and gave herself, and her followers, some well-meaning pieces of advice.
At the time Meghan, who is now a mum of two, wrote: "I am 33 years old today. And I am happy. And I say that so plainly because, well…it takes time.To be happy.To figure out how to be kind to yourself.To not just choose that happiness, but to feel it." Talking about her earlier years navigating "cliquey" high school and then Hollywood as an aspiring actress, Meghan was candid as she spoke about her struggles to fit in.
