During her time as a working senior royal, Meghan Markle worked with a number of charities and launched some important projects.
Her interests included mental health, women's rights, animal welfare and bringing communities together. Given The Duchess of Sussex's interest in the importance of charity work, many experts were surprised she didn't stay in the royal fold for longer than she did – with it being often claimed that her departure was partly down to the lack of understanding she had surrounding her royal role.
Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond confirmed this when she exclusively told OK!: "I have always held the view that Meghan failed to understand that she would never be the top dog in the Royal Family… or even the deputy top dog." Jennie added: "There’s absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to be in complete control and charge of your life.There’s nothing wrong with seeking the limelight.
It’s just that the Royal Family was the wrong vehicle for her ambitions." But Jennie also gave some insight into Meghan's true ambitions – and it's not necessarily what many people think. "I’m not sure she craves a superstar profile," Jennie explained. "In fact she’s been quite low-key in recent times, presumably enjoying her family life in California.
