Meghan Markle “didn’t understand” the point of the royal walkabouts and why she wasn’t paid for them during her time as a working royal, a source has claimed.
Meghan, 41, and Prince Harry, 38, stepped down as senior members of the royal family in January 2020 and sources in a new book have now claimed that Meghan “failed to understand the point of all those walkabouts" and "shaking hands with countless strangers”.
The claims have emerged from an extract of the new bombshell book New Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Crown, by Valentine Low, published by The Times.
Members of staff quoted in the book have revealed that Meghan had been heard saying “on at least one occasion”: “I can’t believe I’m not getting paid for this” in relation to the public walkabouts the royal family are famous for.The couple were described as a hit on their royal tours in the book, but a source claims that behind the scenes, Meghan is said to have "failed to understand the point”.The source said: "Although she enjoyed the attention, Meghan failed to understand the point of all those walkabouts, shaking hands with countless strangers." They added that on their first official trip to Australia, they were “going down a storm” with Meghan being seen to have a “refreshingly informal approach” - but what was happening behind the scenes was allegedly very different.
