Busted star Matt Willis has opened up and said he finds it difficult to watch his old interviews because he was “off my face”.The bass player and singer, who recently had his 40th birthday celebrations, opened up in the new BBC documentary Matt Willis: Fighting Addiction where he said he can’t watch an interview from two decades ago with Jonathan Ross.

In 2004, Matt – along with his bandmates James Bourne and Charlie Simpson – appeared on Friday Night With Jonathan Ross to chat about their upcoming music.

In the documentary, the star goes into detail about the pressures and difficulties of getting famous at a young age and looking back at that particular interview Matt said: “That was hardest for me to watch because I’m looking at myself and I’m 20 years old or something and I’m obviously off my face.” He continued: “It’s not rock ‘n’ roll, it wasn’t glamorous, it was really sad." Just one year after the interview, Matt was admitted to London's Priory Hospital for three weeks to get help treating his alcoholism.

However, it didn’t stop there and Matt has ended up in rehab four times in the last two decades. The bass player was clean for eight years before relapsing again in 2016 when Busted went on a reunion tour.
