Martin Lewis has shared some of his top shopping hacks ahead of Black Friday and the Christmas sales. The Money Saving Expert was back on tonight's Christmas Special of The Martin Lewis Money Show Live on ITV.

He warned of a little-known shopping mistake and shared surprising ways to get great deals for the holidays. Martin mostly spoke about credit card switching and whether or not families should cash-out on Christmas during a cost of living crisis.

However, he did reveal some thrifty hacks for the festive season ahead. One shopping tip saw Martin warn consumers that they cannot guarantee a refund for items that have been bought in store unless they are faulty.

While many stores will allow you to swap or get your money back, they are under no legal obligation to do so. Martin said: "Christmas shopping consumer rights, very important to know."You have a right to change your mind with items bought online, you do not have a right to change your mind with items bought in store."In store by law you can only return goods if they're faulty."If you buy something and it's the wrong size or wrong colour you have no automatic right to return it in store unless it's faulty."He adds that legally, only the purchaser has the right to return faulty goods so if you get someone a gift and they want to take it back the shops can say no - although they likely won't.
