Marks and Spencer to close store in Scotland as six UK shops face shutting down

Marks and Spencer is set to close the doors to multiple branches across the UK this year - with one location in Scotland shuttering soon.So far, six more stores across the UK are set to be closed this year, with the Meadowbank Retail Park branch in Edinburgh set to close sometime this spring.

It's not the first Scots branch to take a hit this year from the major retailer, as the M&S store in the East Kilbride Shopping Centre was recently closed on February 25.We previously reported that staff based at the Edinburgh-based M&S outlet store are expected to be offered roles at other stores across the city after the branch failed to renew its lease.The store closures across the country come as part of M&S' major business shake-up that has seen it plan to close its larger "full line" shops with home and clothing ranges, in favour of more food halls, as reported by The Mirror.M&S has said that it plans to reduce its "full line" stores from 247 to 180, while increasing its Simply Food Halls Shops from 316 to 420 over the next five years.Many of the stores that are planned are set to reopen in the same area or location as those earmarked for closure.
