Manchester student, 17, named BBC Young Musician of the year

Percussionist Fang Zhang, 17, who had recently been studying at the city's Chetham's School of Music, was named as the winner of the illustrious competition which had been delayed due to the pandemic.

Born in China's Henan province, Fang came to enroll at the world-renowned Chetham's in the city centre in 2018, to study a full range of percussion, including snare drum, marimba, timpani and vibraphone.

After a year of delays due to the pandemic, the Grand Finals of the 2020 BBC Young Musician were finally broadcast on Sunday evening across BBC Four, BBC Radio 3 and BBC iPlayer with Fang
