A man tragically found dead in a river almost two months after a major search was launched to find him has been named. Police and rescue teams were initially called out to the Manchester Ship Canal following reports that a man had entered the water, on December 5.

The area around Irlam Locks was being searched over a number of days in early December. Police and fire crews were also seen along nearby Cadishead Way, in Salford, as specialist search units arrived on the scene over the following days.

On Sunday morning (February 2), almost two months after the major search had commenced, emergency services were called to reports that a man's body had been found in the River Mersey.

The tragic discovery was made near to Priory Wharf in the Birkenhead area of Merseyside, with paramedics and rescue teams called out to the scene at around 9am.
