Man kept in filthy shed for 40 years as slave with no lights or heating

A man who was kept as a slave and lived in a disgusting six foot shed has finally been set free after four decades. The vulnerable man was exploited as worker at a caravan park where he was kept in a filthy garden shed by a Peter Swailes and his father also called Peter Swailes.

The pair were charged with modern slavery offences, however the father who was 80-years-old died last year shortly before standing trial.

Both men had denied the charges including conspiring to arrange or facilitate the travel of an individual between 2015 and 2019 with a view to him being exploited.

This week Swailes Junior, 56, pled guilty to the modern slavery offence at court. A senior investigator has described the case as ‘harrowing’ and said the victim will be traumatised for the rest of his life, according to Manchester Evening Express. “First and foremost in my mind at this time though is the victim.
