Man appears in court charged with abduction and assault after armed cops raced to Stonehaven home

A man has appeared in court charged with abduction, assault and carrying an offensive weapon after armed police were called to reports of a ‘disturbance’ in Stonehaven.

Martynas Kulvinskas made no plea when he appeared in private at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Wednesday, November 23. The 31-year-old was remanded in custody with the case submitted for further examination by prosecutors.

He is expected to reappear within eight days. Emergency services were called to an address in Hunter Place at around 12.40pm on Monday, November 21, due to an incident.Police Scotland has referred itself to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner after a firearm was discharged and a taser deployed.Chief Superintendent Kate Stephen said: “I want to reassure the public that this was a contained incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Anyone with any concerns or information should speak to officers or contact police via 101.”A statement from PIRC added: “We have been made aware of an incident involving the discharge of a police firearm in Stonehaven on 21 November 2022.
