Man, 30, found dead by friend after night 'socialising', inquest hears

A man was found dead on his bedroom floor by a friend, after spending the night taking drugs and drinking alcohol, an inquest has heard.

Police coroners officer Andrew Pickles told Bolton Coroner’s Court that David McKenna, 30, was discovered unresponsive at his flat in Saville Street, Bolton, on April 16.

During a brief inquest opening hearing, Mr Pickles said that Mr McKenna’s friend had gone to check his bedroom after hearing a ‘thud’. READ MORE:'Toxic staff culture' at mental health unit where police are investigating alleged mistreatment of patients “Mr McKenna was found unresponsive on his bedroom floor by a friend, after he heard a thud,” Mr Pickles told the court. “Both had spent the night before socialising. "It is believed that drugs had been taken and alcohol had been consumed.” Following a post mortem, pathologist Dr Patrick Waugh recorded ‘combined drug toxicity’ as the cause of Mr McKenna’s death.
