Major murder probe launched after man, 49, killed in attack

A major murder investigation has been launched after a 49-year-old man was killed in an attack in Lancashire. Emergency services were first called to reports of an assault off Heysham Road, near to the Bay Medical Centre in Heysham, at around 3.55am yesterday morning (Saturday, September 28).

A man was rushed to hospital from the scene. Sadly, he died a short time later. He has since been identified as Keith Thompson, from Morecambe. "As a family, we are shocked and saddened by what has happened to Keith and we would appreciate privacy at this time", they said in a statement issued through Lancashire Police.

A 39-year-old man, from Lancaster, has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody to be quizzed by detectives.

A murder probe is now underway, with any witnesses of the attack urged to come forward. Patrols have also been stepped up in the area.
