If there was one essential on your weekly shopping list, it was a simple tub of butter - but that may have changed recently.
Over the past 12 months, the cost of the versatile household staple, alongside many other basic items, has been the subject of much scrutiny from shoppers during the cost of living crisis.
An analysis of the price of Lurpak - and its 'dupes' at Aldi and Lidl - shows that all three products have risen in the last year, with shoppers facing as much as a 36% increase, as reported by Lancashire Live.As the inflation squeezed households, the cost of Lurpak butter caught the attention of many shoppers online after 500g tubs were spotted retailing up to £9 in some retailers, while others spotted it on sale for £5.Some shoppers might also remember spotting security tags on tubs of Lurpak butter in certain supermarkets as well.
statistics show that only three out of 30 items cost less at the supermarket and shops than they did a year ago, with some essentials soaring by 65%.Basic items have seen some of the biggest increases, with pasta and vegetable oil now costing double the cost they did back in 2022.A spokesperson for the Danish butter company said last year: "Prices on the shelves have had to rise in recent months.
