Manchester United have been told that they must build on the tenures of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick next season. Solskjaer joined United as caretaker boss in December 2018 and, after overseeing some stellar results during that period, was offered the full-time position in March 2019.

However, at the beginning of last season things soured for the Norwegian. Following a good start with a big victory over fierce rivals Leeds, United suffered heavy defeats to Leicester City and Liverpool before falling to a new low when soon-to-be-relegated Watford beat them 4-1 in November.

Solskjaer was sacked following the defeat with Rangnick given the job on an interim basis.
