People who should have recovered - according to how the disease was then understood - were returning to the ‘hot clinics’ set up in Greater Manchester to deal with the virus.

These patients were still suffering from a range of symptoms including breathlessness, fatigue, brain fog, anxiety, heart palpitations and more.

There was a steady flow of patients being referred to the clinics four, five, six weeks down the line after first falling ill.
