Livingston boss David Martindale hailed his side’s win over Dundee – but insisted their aim remains avoiding relegation despite sitting just five points behind sixth-placed Aberdeen.Bruce Anderson’s double means the Lions are nine points ahead of basement boys St Johnstone and seven in front of the Dees, who currently occupy the play-off spot.Martindale said: “To be seven clear of Dundee and nine clear of St Johnstone is massive.“In footballing terms when you are down the bottom end of the table, that is massive.“Our focus is to stay away from the relegation zone as much as possible and if we can get ourselves anywhere near the top six then that would be brilliant.

You would need a wee bit of luck for that to happen and we’re just focusing on one game at a time.”He added: “It was a big win and a clean sheet, so really pleasing.“We scored two and I think we were probably a wee bit unlucky that it wasn’t more if I’m honest.“I thought we dominated large spells of the game and Brucey (Anderson) had about five decent chances and he got two goals, so fair play.”The gaffer also heaped praise on matchwinner Anderson and insisted the summer signing from Aberdeen has a ‘natural’ instinct for goals. He commented: “He’s an old-fashioned No.9 who plays football to score goals.“It’s a dying breed and you don’t get that very often in young boys coming through any more.“You know when the ball’s in the box that he’s nearly always in the right area at the right time.

You can’t coach that, it’s natural.“He’s under a wee bit of pressure with Joel (Nouble) coming back but fair play to him because he’s kept the shirt.” Don't miss the latest news from the West Lothian Courier.
