Learner driver caught doing 145mph on motorway in Mercedes

A learner driver was clocked travelling at 145mph on the M6 this morning. North West Motorway Police spotted the speeding Mercedes S350 at around 12.45am.

It was travelling on the M6 southbound, officers said. The driver only held a provisional licence and was caught reaching a speed of 145mph. READ MORE: Horror crash which killed three men happened after car drove wrong way down A1 They have been reported and will receive a summons, police said.

A tweet posted by North West Motorway Police at around 2.30am said: "MS16 paced this Mercedes S350 at 145 mph on the M6 Southbound. "Driver was found to be a provisional licence holder only. "Vehicle seized and the driver Reported for Summons #Fatal4." Drivers with a provisional licence can drive on all UK roads expect motorways before passing their test.

However, drivers must be supervised by their driving instructor or any other driver over the age of 21 who has held a full driving licence for at least three years.
