Viewers of last night’s Late Late show were moved by a ‘poignant’ and ‘heartwarming’ tribute to the 796 children who tragically lost their lives at the Tuam Mother and Baby Home.

Ryan Tubridy told viewers that he wanted to take the show’s cameras outside so they could see the candles lit outside the studio, one for every baby that died at the Home over four decades ago. ‘796 candles lit for each one of them and lit because Catherine Corless never gave up,’ the show tweeted.

Historian Catherine garnered high praise for her effortless work in uncovering the harrowing events that took place at the Tuam homes and began the investigation that ultimately led to the remains of the babies being uncovered in what was once a septic tank at the Home.
