Kylie Minogue is set to enter the tough US pop charts for the first time in more than two decades with a spectacular comeback track inspired by Edith Piaf.

The star, who spent her 55th birthday today at the Monaco Grand Prix, has released a dance single, Padam Padam, sharing a title with a 1951 song by the iconic French singer.

Its striking video sees Ms Minogue showing off her famous figure in an eye-catching red catsuit and red knee-length leather boots.

The song, which references the human heartbeat, has become an online sensation and last week she performed it during the final of the American Idol TV talent contest.
