A charitable Edinburgh resident left boxes full of food on a park bench for others to pick up for free. A local noticed the collection while on a walk in Leith Links Park before posting about the kind gesture on Facebook, letting others who may be struggling this winter know of its whereabouts.

Two large boxes and a bag of essentials were left on the bench, stocked full of bread, rolls, fruit and vegetables, along with a note that read: "free to use, please put the lid back on.

It is believed to be a gesture of good will to the homeless individuals in the area, and has become a regular occurrence over the last few years, according to Edinburgh Live.

The local who shared the collection of food said: "passed this on the bench at the end of the links just before the bridge over towards Seafield - boxes filled with bread, rolls, general food etc free to whoever needs it.
