Kay Mellor has died at the age of 71. The Leeds-born scriptwriter passed away on Sunday her production company announced: “It is with profound sadness that we announce the untimely and sudden passing of our beloved friend, mentor and colleague Kay Mellor on Sunday 15th May 2022. “We have lost a phenomenal talent and a true luminary.
We ask that you please respect the privacy of the family and friends at this time.” Kay was best known for having many hit TV shows under her belt, written by her as well as starring her on some occasions and even wrote a couple of episodes for soaps Coronation Street and Brookside back in the late 1980s.

Fat Friends (2000-2005) Set in Kay’s home city of Leeds, this drama centred around a group of slimming club members and focused on how their weight affected them individually and in their day-today lives.This hit ITV show included a veteran stars Alison Steadman and the late Lynda Baron, Kay's daughter Gaynor Faye and made names out of young actresses at the time Ruth Jones and Sheridan Smith.
