Jurrien Timber's previous comments regarding Manchester City have proven why it is currently a struggle for the Reds to land the 20-year-old defender.
Timber became a pivotal part of Ten Hag's side last season as Ajax lifted the Eredivisie title. The Dutchman made 43 appearances for the Amsterdam club and MEN Sport understands that he is a key target for United this summer.
Reports have suggested though that United may struggle to land their man due to his reluctance to potentially sacrifice regular first-team football in a World Cup year.
However there could be more than just that which could prevent the Reds sealing the deal.
