Hotelier John Brennan has opened up about his ‘difficult’ childhood battle with dyslexia and how despite the fact he didn’t speak until he was four years old, he never let the condition define his optimism for life.

Speaking on Sunday with Miriam on RTÉ’ Radio One, the successful businessman, said: ‘I was always optimistic because I always felt there was something against me, I wasn’t able to read and write when I was very, very young.’ John, who grew up in Sligo before moving to Dublin with his family in the 1970s, revealed that despite certain setbacks in his studies, his dyslexia never ‘bothered’ him to the point where he didn’t look forward to school. ‘I never got up in the morning and thought “Oh god I have to go to school today.” I
