Jim Goodwin believes top six finish would see St Mirren achieve their main campaign goal

League Cup anguish to drive them on to achieve their ultimate campaign goal of a top six finish. Despite their dispiriting semi-final loss to Livingston, the St Mirren manager says his players can be proud of ticking off the first of their season objectives.

Now he’s asking them to pull up their socks and push on to their top target of breaking into the top half of the Premiership table come the split.

Goodwin said: “It was a good achievement to get to the semi-final. The players can be proud of their efforts to get that far in the competition and knock out some big teams on the way.“But our bread and butter is always the league.
