Aldi beat its shopping competitors to become the UK's cheapest supermarket in January - beating closest rival Lidl by just 76p.

Consumer research group Which? compared the prices of 100 popular branded and non-branded groceries at eight of the UK's biggest supermarkets to see how they compared.

Where supermarkets offer loyalty schemes such as Tesco's Clubcard or Morrisons More card, Which? shows the price of the 100 groceries both with and without using the discount.

Popular affordable supermarket Aldi came out as the cheapest costing £185.83 for the 100 items. Lidl, with Lidl Plus, followed closely behind at £186.59, followed by Asda at £204.90.
