Irish crime gangs allegedly behind sick puppies sold to unsuspecting owners in Scotland

Irish crime gangs are alleged to be fuelling the spike in poorly puppies being sold to unsuspecting owners in Scotland, amid a nearly 40 per cent increase in welfare calls.

The Scottish SPCA has seen a 34 per cent increase in calls regarding puppy breeding - with 702 calls made last year, rising to 1,059 from January 1 to October 31 2021.

Last year 150 puppies were rescued, compared to 56 this year.On October 29, four cockapoo puppies were found dumped in a bush in Aberdeenshire after breeders made a bid to evade being caught following a raid by animal welfare chiefs.The charity said frontline inspectors and the special investigations unit 'worked together to target the large scale, prolific puppy dealers from Ireland operating in
