Injured paraglider sparks rescue mission on Tinto Hill after take-off drama

A paraglider sparked a rescue mission near the summit of Tinto Hill yesterday after injuring himself when attempting to take off.Mountain rescue teams raced to the man's aid after receiving reports of the incident at around 11.43am on Saturday.

The paraglider had attempted to take off from the Lanarkshire hill however was dragged along the ground in the process causing him to dislocate his knee.

Officers from Police Scotland's Mountain Rescue team alongside Moffatt Mountain Rescue crews descended the hill in a bid to save the wounded man.

They carried a stretcher, a rope bag, a casualty bag, medicines and splints.The casualty was given pain relief then safely packaged into the stretcher and a back rope was used to lower the stretcher down the hill.He was then treated by paramedics.Moffatt Mountain Rescue Team posted about the mercy mission on Facebook, saying they wished the casualty all the best in their recovery.Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
