A Lanarkshire foodbank is already seeing locals struggle to put food on the table a week after the Universal Credit uplift was scrapped.

The cuts have been described as "dreadful" by Hamilton District Foodbank who are bracing themselves for their busiest winter period ever.

The £20 increase was introduced to support low income families during the pandemic. But the UK Government made the decision to remove the uplift, stressing the move was always a temporary measure and that focus should now be on getting people back into work.
