Ianis Hagi nearing final Rangers injury hurdle insists dad Gheoghe but next Ibrox boss issued 'easy, easy' caveat

Sidelined Rangers star Ianis Hagi is in the "final period" of his return to fitness, according to his dad Gheorghe. The Romania international hasn't featured for the Ibrox side in almost a year after the playmaker picked up a horror ACL injury during the Scottish Cup showdown with Stirling Albion back in January, which required Hagi to go under the knife.

The 24-year-old has faced a tough road back to the Rangers first-team but has been spotted taking in extra training sessions while the Scottish Premiership is in cold storage during the World Cup.

With Gio van Bronckhorst leaving the Ibrox hot seat former Barcelona and Real Madrid star Gheorghe has offered the next boss in charge in Govan a lift as he claims his son is almost back to fitness.

However, he has urged the incoming boss to take their time with Hagi Jr after a lengthy spell on the sidelines. He told Romanian outlet Fanatik : "He's in his last period.
