SINGER Christine McVie opened champagne when I went to her home in the Hollywood Hills on March 21, 1978. She was celebrating her divorce from bass guitarist John just three weeks before — and told how she had put their band Fleetwood Mac ahead of her personal life.
She was then 34 and a millionaire. Their album Rumours had topped the American charts for six months the previous year. It had not left Britain’s top ten for 55 consecutive weeks.
It has since sold more than 40 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling albums ever.
