Hundreds of Wigan homes lose power after car crash damages electricity network

The incident initially caused 1,866 properties to lose their electricity at around 6.50pm this afternoon but engineers quickly restored the majority of the supply.

A further 323 homes still have outages but Electricity North West, the company which manages the power supply, says it is working to repair the issue.

In a Tweet, a spokesman for the company said the problem had been caused after a car crash damaged electrical equipment. Homeowners have been warned of a 'high volume' of calls reporting the problems.
