A 'huge' fire has ripped through a flat in Edinburgh. The alarm was raised shortly after 11am today when emergency services, including Police Scotland and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, were alerted to a blaze having taken hold on Oxgangs Road North on the outskirts of the city.

Three appliances and around six crews rushed to the scene, where hero firefighters worked to tackle the inferno. Four normal appliances and two height appliances were mobilised, too, according to EdinburghLive.

A photo taken at the site, which was shared on social media, show teams, decked out in breathing apparatus and other safety gear, gathered together on the road sometime this morning. One Twitter user also reported seeing the "huge fire", while several Lothian Buses were diverted away from the area.

It is not yet known whether anyone suffered injuries as a result of the incident, but it is believed the fire was eventually extinguished.A service alert affecting the 4, 27 and 400 buses read: "Due to a road closure buses are unable to serve Oxgangs Road North and Colinton Mains Drive and are instead diverted via Redford Road and Colinton Road in both directions until further notice."SFRS confirmed that three appliances attended the scene, but could offer no further information.
