Villa are prepared to smash their pay ceiling to keep the England star out of the clutches of Man City, the Daily Star reports.

The club's owners - American Wes Edens and Egyptian tycoon Nassef Sawiris - have personally sanctioned the mega £10million-a-year new contract in a last ditch attempt to hang on to Villa's pin-up boy.

City boss Pep Guardiola wants the 25-year-old and talks are now under way to try and broker a deal. Grealish is a boyhood Villa fan and has been at the club since he was eight but his departure now seems inevitable.
