A homeowner has been fined in court for dumping 46 bin bags, a leather chair, sofa and a fridge freezer in their back garden.

The Wiganer was one of the three residents found guilty of failing to clear mounds of rubbish outside their properties who have been fined more than £2,500 as Wigan Council crackdown on illegal waste issues.

In both cases – one in Ince and another in Wigan – they refused to comply with a Community Protection Notice (CPN) which required them to remove the rubbish from their rear yards.

One of the cases related to two residents at the same property who failed to attend court after refusing to comply with a CPN.
