Portland, Ore., and Oakland, Calif. filed a lawsuit against two government agencies, claiming they unconstitutionally overreached federal law when sending in troops to "quash civil protests."  According to the 48-page lawsuit, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of Justice (DOJ), as well as the heads of both agencies (Attorney General William Barr and acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf), instituted "a policy that authorized the deployment and operation of federal agents allegedly for the purpose of assuring domestic law and order and tak[ing] over cities." The move by both agencies was allegedly in response to directives from President Trump beginning "in or around June 2020," the suit stated.

Florida saw record breaking first day of early voting with millions of ballots cast
Floridians experienced a record-breaking first day of early voting in anticipation of the upcoming November election, with over 3.1 million votes cast.  More than 366,000 of those ballots were cast in-person on the first day, according to statistics from the Florida Division of Elections. The remainder, over 2.6 million voters, opted to vote by mail.  Of the over 3 million ballots, 1,003,891 were cast by Republicans, 1,324,836 by Democrats, 46,892 were identified as "other," while 774,633 had no party affiliation.  Early voting caused long lines throughout the state on Monday, as rows of people stretched around a local public library and various county buildings.

A man reportedly broke into a northern California home during two teenagers’ remote learning class, prompting their teacher to dial 911.  The man entered the home in Galt through a window, ran through the house and then out a back door before going over a fence, KOVR-TV reported Friday.Two teenage students were near the end of their remote class at the time, and their mother was not home.  Teacher Jennifer Petersen said she realized something was wrong when the teenagers did not log off at the end of the lesson from their home in the community 26 miles southeast of Sacramento.
