Heavy snow leaves drivers stranded in ‘mountain of traffic’ on A9 as road shut at Inverness

Drivers have been stuck in massive queues due to heavy snowfall south of Inverness which has forced the closure of the A9. Traffic Scotland tweeted just after 2pm that the trunk road has been closed at the Inshes junction due to the poor weather conditions.

Photographs shared online this afternoon show queues of traffic just south of the Highland capital as lorries and cars struggle with the slippery surface.One car passenger, Hannah Grant, told the Record she is stuck northbound at Daviot and described seeing a “mountain of traffic” in front with lorries - including a Royal Mail vehicle - stuck in the snow.Bear Northwest trunk roads tweeted to say four gritters have been sent to deal with the heavy snow on the A9 at Daviot and Slochd,
