Heartbroken son loses battle to stay in council house after mum's death

A son has been left heartbroken after losing a court battle to stay in his childhood council home a week after his mum died.

Grieving Steve White's local authority ordered him to leave his home of almost 50 years following his beloved 81-year-old mother's death.

Steve, 53, moved into the property in 1974, alongside his parents. The family have stayed in the three-bed semi in Bredon Avenue, Stourbridge, West Midlands, since, so Steve was horrified when Dudley Council issued him with the notice to leave after mum Janet died, reports the Mirror.Janet had been the tenant and there no was no right of succession of the tenancy because of his dad's death a few years previously.

Mr White says the ordeal took its toll on his mental health and left him on anti-depressants as he fought to to try and keep his home.
