Irvine Vics boss Alan Kelly jokes he’s the Harry Redknapp of non-league football. Now he’s ready to wheel and deal his way to success just like the former Spurs and West Ham gaffer.
Kelly, 59, was unveiled on Sunday as successor to Brian McLuckie, who quit the hotseat on Thursday, June 10. It’s his first job since leaving Maryhill in October 2019 after a 16-month spell in charge.
Kelly admits he faces a rebuild at Vics Park with players expected to follow McLuckie out the door. It’s a major headache with the start of the West of Scotland League season less than a month away.
But Kelly reckons his experience at Maryhill - and 14 years spent managing amateur football cracks Arthurlie United - make him well-equipped for the task.
