A former Manchester United defender has jumped to the defence of Harry Maguire after the centre-back was heavily criticised last season.

The club captain was adjudged by many to have had an abject campaign as United finished with their worst-ever Premier League points tally.

The 29-year was even booed by a section of England supporters during March’s internationals before he despicably received a bomb threat at his home in April.

Both incidents were condemned by United followers but some still question his leadership skills. A number of supporters believe he should be relinquished of captaincy duty next season.
