Hamilton Accies star pleads with fans to back them in play-off battle

Hamilton Accies defender Fergus Owens has pleaded with fans to back them in their hour of need as they bid to overturn a 1-0 play-off semi-final first leg deficit against Alloa.Victory at New Douglas Park on Saturday would put Accies into the final against Airdrie or Falkirk, with the Diamonds taking a 6-2 lead to the Falkirk Stadium, and a chance of preserving their Championship status.Defeat or a draw against Brian Rice’s Wasps will see Accies fall into League One, and Owens says that’s a scenario they can’t allow to happen.The 19-year-old said: “We’ve given ourselves a task, with a bad result on Tuesday there, but we know we’ve got more than enough quality to turn the game around, and I think we can do that.“I would ask the fans to come down, give us all the support that you’ve been giving us all season, and we’ll give a bit back.“We’ll do our best to win the game, which I believe we can do.“Back us one last wee bit.“The fans who came to Alloa on Tuesday were good, they’ve always got our back, but playing at home in front of all of the fans will definitely give us a boost in confidence.“If they get behind us, which we’ll need, it will be a big help.”Owens admits Hamilton Accies haven’t been good enough this season, as they fight for survival, and says this is the time for their character to shine through.He said “It hasn’t been a very good season at all, you can’t turn around and say otherwise when you’re in the relegation play-offs.“We’re struggling for goals and things like that, and certain games haven’t gone our way, but I’m not trying to make excuses – it just hasn’t been good enough.“We need to show our character, and go into the game with that real belief and desire, that’s the main thing, to get it over the
