A man who followed up on a woman's request to "message in three years" has been left full of regret. Shooting his shot in a now viral post on Twitter/X, Sam Weinberg revealed a brief text with an unnamed woman who said to give it three years when he'd first tried to date her.

Her response was less-than ideal for the original poster, who has racked up more than 250,000 likes and thousands of replies to his shot at love.

Revealing the text exchange online, Sam posted a screenshot of the attempted rekindling, hoping the "timing" was right this time.

But he found himself shot down in a short reply which has crushed the user, but left the public calling him "brave". His text read: "About three years ago you said the timing wasn't right and you wished we'd met three years from then so just checking to see how you're doing." Sam's light message was signed off with a smiley face and seemed like a sure-fire chance at rekindling a romance three years later.
