Greggs thanks Scots squirrel for ‘enthusiastic first shift’ as critter released back into wild

Bakery chain Greggs has thanked a red squirrel for its ‘enthusiastic first shift’ after getting trapped in a Scottish branch for three days.

The critter was first spotted bounding about the Pitlochry store on Saturday sparking a call to the Scottish SPCA for help to rescue it.

But the mischievous animal proved tricky to catch after it sought refuge high up in the rafters of the store, which was forced to close.

The squirrel was successfully released into Faskally Wood on the banks of Loch Dunmore late on Tuesday evening. The popular bakery shared a video of the moment it ran for freedom - after being given its own name badge by ‘fellow’ staff.Greggs tweeted: “Some of you may have noticed we had a wee new starter in Pitlochry Greggs this week.
