Greater Manchester braces for Hurricane Ian fallout as heavy rain set to hit

Heavy rain will fall over Greater Manchester today as the remnants of Hurricane Ian hits the UK. Strong winds are also forecast for our region as the Atlantic jet stream, strengthened by the warm tropical air pushed northwards by the hurricane on Florida's southwest coast, drives an area of low pressure across the country.

The heaviest rain and strongest winds are expected across northern Scotland where weather warnings have been issued, according to the Met Office.

But a wet and windy day is expected for most on Friday. Forecasters predict the downpours will begin in Greater Manchester at around lunchtime. Some light showers are then forecast until around 8pm. More rain is then forecast to fall through the night until the early hours of Saturday, according to the Met Office.
